Christmas Decor 2020

Fireplace.jpg

Christmas 2020 looked a little different. But I did not let anything stop me from decorating for Christmas even though no one but the internet would ever see it. I have shared a little bit of my decor on Instagram but here is what the rest of the house looked like. I normally focus on the fireplace and the dining room. I did not purchase a lot of new things this year since I already have so much and we are going to be moving this year. I linked some of the things that are still available at the bottom of this post.

My best tip for any seasonal decor is try not to completely redecorate your house. I use lanterns, candle holders, and jars year around. So when you just use vase filler to mix it up seasonally it makes it look different. This makes it way easier to switch things up without creating a storage nightmare.

The last two years I would describe the style as a classic rustic farmhouse Christmas. I am still on a farmhouse decor kick and i’m not mad at it. I incorporated a lot of natural woods, a classic red and green color palette, and lots and lots of texture.

We displayed all the Christmas cards we received in the dining room on my grandmother’s antique mantle and my mother’s antique cedar chest. Someday I will be one of those people that sends Christmas cards. My husband always wants to but i’ve never thought about it early enough to get it done. Next year, he’s in charge of them. I do enjoy the cards that have photos the most. Since no one sends actual photos anymore, it’s usually the only family photos we get all year.

In the dining room I have used the same fur table runner for the last three years. I love it because it doesn’t scream Christmas it’s more Winter in general so I can leave it up longer. It also protects my table (another heirloom) from the pinecone centerpiece I found at Hobby Lobby after Christmas last year. Since the weather was very rainy during the month of December, some of my decor that would normally be on the porch made its way inside. I have two large lanterns with filler and my wooden sign from Kirklands. Kirkland’s signs are great, but not water resistant. Be warned if you put it outside it will water spot and fade if it’s not under cover. It is also very light weight so I would also weigh it down with a brick. I can’t help how cute they are though. My husband actually picked this one out. He likes to contribute to the decor a little bit.

I put this cedar garland on my light fixture last Christmas. I loved it so much it stayed all year. Where it sits is not on the hot part of the fixture so it’s safe. Santa’s mailbox is by the door every year as is the milk jug. The milk jug is there year around but I change the flowers seasonally.

On Christmas day my little 11 year old half blind pup Gracie was all dressed in her Santa outfit. She enjoyed her time on a small fur rug I put out in front of the tree for us to sit on while we opened gifts. I still haven’t found the right rug for the living room, so I usually just bring in something small like this when necessary.

Mudroom.jpg

The last place I usually decorate is the Mudroom space. It’s not really a whole room but more like a knook in the hallway going into the garage. The wreath on the backdoor is the one I had over the mantle last year. The only other thing that doesn’t live there is the snowflake pillow and the christmas tree sign. If you look close you might see my husbands yard shoes hidden in the wooden crate. It’s still a functioning mudroom space. I like my house to look nice but I never want to sacrifice function.

We did put three wreaths on the outside of the house this year but did not put up lights. I still have yet to put Christmas lights on any of the houses I have lived in. I bought them but there always seems to be something stopping us from getting it done. Maybe next year! I hope you all enjoyed this look into my house at Christmas. I have a few links below if you are interested in purchasing anything. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to send me a message on Instagram @luxandwine!
